On a bright summer morning, a little boy goes out to play, climbs a tree and meets a small blue bird. Inspired by the director’s childhood memory, The Sky Was Candy transforms a simple experience into an animated nursery rhyme about wonder, the fragility of life and a child’s first encounter with loss. Created using the phenakistiscope technique, the film captures the innocence of a child’s gaze.
Anh Tú Nguyen is a German visual artist, animator and animation director. He studies animation directing at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and teaches analogue animation at ABK Stuttgart.
