In Acholi, northern Uganda, lives Ayoo Sunday, a fourteen-year-old girl with autism spectrum disorder. Her family belongs to a small rural village, where life unfolds between mud-and-thatch houses, subsistence farming, and occasional journeys to the city. Giulio Tonincelli chooses to work through images rather than words, accompanying Ayoo through the gestures of everyday life and bringing forward her unique way of inhabiting the world: moments of deep contemplation and dance that merge with the surrounding landscape. Sunday is a story of dignity, where the value of existence reveals itself through the simple unfolding of life.
Giulio Tonincelli is a documentary filmmaker. He develops audiovisual projects in collaboration with various NGOs, creating stories across Western Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Sunday had its world premiere at Alice nella Città.
