Sonia Estévez is a director, producer, model maker and stop motion animator. She is a founding partner and administrator of Tik Tak Animation, an independent production company, social initiative cooperative, specialized in stop motion animation. Sonia has professionally directed three short films; Txotxongiloa, Malkoak and Plazer bat and several advertisements in this animation technique. She is currently an active member of MIA (Women in the Animation Industry), CIMA (Association of Filmmaker and Audiovisual Media Women) and Hemen (Association of Women in the Audiovisual Sector and Performing Arts of the Basque Country). She has trained in stop motion animation in Barcelona, at the 9zeros Animation School and at the Cifo of Hospitalet; in executive production at the consulting firm Media Training and has completed the Stop Motion I and II course at Aardman Academy. He took courses in Digital Art and Audiovisual Projects at the School of Arts and Crafts of Vitoria-Gasteiz. She was selected in the CIMA Mentoring 1to1 program (2023-24), in Animation Direction specialty. She studied Forestry and Environmental Chemistry, so she combines audiovisual production and sustainability. She uses stop motion animation as a means to make social issues visible. She teaches several animation courses and workshops for all ages. She has been nominated for the 2024 Goya Awards for her first professional animated short film, Txotxongiloa.
