Eline Kersten is an artist and filmmaker. In her practice, she identifies, criticizes and makes visible multilayered narratives around rapidly changing and disappearing landscapes, both far away and close to home. She believes that our sense of identity is inherently connected to the landscape we surround ourselves with. Then what happens when the environment we consider to be home rapidly changes—or worse, disappears? She is interested in the meaning we give to degrading landscapes through the stories we tell about them, and the way in which they are ecologically, historically and personally coloured. To navigate these different dimensions of ecological degradation, she consults and collaborates with practitioners from other domains, ranging from climate scientists and glaciologists, to composers and the fire brigade.
