In 2021, an 85-day volcanic eruption devastated a large area of the island of La Palma, destroying nearly 3000 buildings and forever changing the lives of hundreds of children. Marta asks her sister Aysha to accompany her to their grandparents’ house. Their short journey unfolds across a profoundly transformed landscape, where vast stretches of ash and yellow-tinted lava evoke post-apocalyptic imagery. Mi casa amarilla invites us to look at natural disasters through the eyes of children, whose experiences are often overshadowed by the economic, political, and social consequences that dominate the adult narrative. The film was developed during an artistic residency in the Canary Islands under the artistic mentorship of Werner Herzog.

Michele Aiello is a documentary filmmaker and participatory video facilitator. A member of ZaLab, his latest film, My Place Is Here, premiered at Visions du Réel and won several Italian awards, including the 2021 Biografilm Italia Award.
