<p>Maxim Chakilev is a marine biologist. Every autumn he spends three months in the vast expanses of the Russian Arctic. During his stay, the beach fills up with countless walruses year after year, but far too often ends in the death of some of the animals. The warming of the sea and rising temperatures make the ice recede, which results in the dwindling of living space available for them.</p>
<p>Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev are sister and brother, their work often looks into their homeland, the Arctic, discovering and capturing the remote worlds and people who inhabit them. </p> <p>Maxim Arbugaev is a director, cinematographer, producer and winner of various international film festival awards.</p> <p>Evgenia Arbugaevais a documentary photographer based in London, UK. <em>Haulout </em>developed out of the photography project Evgenia worked on in Chukotka for a few years.The film is her directorial debut.</p>
