Completely Different, Exactly The Same

At a crossroads of borders in the Balkans, Montenegrin feminist activist Sabina Talović has spent decades confronting conflicts and social transformations while remaining steadfast in her opposition to every form of violence. Her commitment began during the Yugoslav Wars, when she chose to stand against atrocities by joining anti-militarist movements. In the following years, she founded a shelter for women victims of violence, in a context marked by the deep wounds left by the conflict. Today, along the Balkan migration route, that same space welcomes people on the move, becoming a place of protection and care.
Through the portrait of a woman and a daily practice of resistance, Completely Different, Exactly the Same shows how forms of struggle may change over time, while the demands for justice, dignity, and equality that drive them remain unchanged.
Marianna Giorgia Marchesini is an anthropologist and ethnolinguist. Completely Different, Exactly the Same is her first film, awarded Best Short Film at the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival and the Sevil International Women’s Documentary Film Festival.
