To the River!

A collective writing workshop led by Marco Gnaccolini, organized in collaboration with Atlante delle Rive and the Euganea Film Festival, and supported by Acquevenete.

This collaborative writing workshop combines storytelling, ecology, and role-playing to explore the relationship between humans and the environment through the lens of water management. Participants will work together to construct the story of a river—from its source to its mouth—traversing landscapes, transformations, and conflicts.

The workshop is designed as a shared writing experience that blends storytelling, ecology, and role-playing. It stems from the idea of ​​creating a collaborative experience where writing becomes a means to observe, imagine, and discuss water management—and, more broadly, the human-environment relationship—through collective narrative practice. Participants are invited to build a river's story together, tracing its journey from source to end while navigating landscapes, transformations, and conflicts.

The starting point is a compelling concept: the river is not merely a natural feature but a living system shaped by various forces, decisions, and imaginaries. It is an ecosystem of stories, serving as a tool to examine the territory and its dynamics. In this sense, the project draws loose inspiration from the perspective of the anarchist geographer Élisée Reclus and his work The Story of a Stream (Histoire d'un ruisseau); here, the watercourse becomes a narrative of the landscape and its relationships, capable of symbolically encapsulating human social and political concerns.

The results of the workshop will be presented to the public.
