Roberto Morrione Award

Despite condemnations by the United Nations, the Israeli national water company Mekorot has established itself as a global leader in the sector. In recent years, several companies have terminated their agreements with Mekorot, following reports from numerous NGOs denouncing the exploitation of water resources in the occupied Palestinian territories. In contrast, Acea—a public water utility 51% controlled by the City of Rome—is the only company that has not withdrawn from the agreement signed with Mekorot in 2013. Requests for access to the relevant documents have proven futile; the text remains inaccessible to this day.
