Presentation and screening of the investigative reportage Esotici fuori luogo by Francesca Sapio and Caterina Tarquini (Italy, 20’), finalist for the 2024 Morrione Prize – Video Investigation category, created under the supervision of Sara Segatori. Esotici fuori luogo investigates the trade of exotic animals in Italy, where apparent legality often hides a shadowy and opaque system. Tropical birds, venomous spiders, small rodents: rarity, unusual plumage or coloring dictate their market value. Behind trade fairs and online purchases lies a trafficking network that exploits regulatory loopholes and inadequate controls, fueling a business that endangers biodiversity, public health, and the balance of ecosystems.
