People on Sunday - live by Krano

Before the Hollywood diaspora, a group of young German filmmakers (including future noir masters Robert Siodmak and Edgar G. Ulmer, alongside Billy Wilder and Fred Zinnemann) created an extraordinary collaboration: People on Sunday (Menschen am Sonntag).

Set in Berlin during the Weimar Republic, the film follows a day of leisure in the lives of two men and two women spending a Sunday outside the city. Starring non-professional actors and experimenting with the codes of hybrid cinema, People on Sunday captures the spirit of the time with remarkable freshness, becoming a work that would influence generations of filmmakers.

For the opening event of the twenty-fifth edition of Euganea Film Festival, Krano (composer of the soundtrack for The Last One for the Road and winner of the David di Donatello Award for Best Original Score for Ti) will create a new live soundtrack for the film, in an original production by the Festival.

Robert Siodmak (1900–1973) was a German filmmaker. He emigrated to the United States in the 1930s and is best remembered for his thrillers and for the series of film noirs he directed in Hollywood during the 1940s.

Edgar G. Ulmer (1904–1972) was an Austrian-born filmmaker. He directed cult films such as The Black Cat (1934) and Detour (1945).

Krano is a singer-songwriter and composer. In 2026, he received the David di Donatello Award for Best Original Song for Ti, featured in Francesco Sossai’s The Last One for the Road (Le città di pianura), for which he composed the original score.
