AFTER WORK
Erik Gandini
Sweden, Italy, Norway, 2023, 85'
In the next 15 years it is estimated that about half of the workforce will be replaced by automation and artificial intelligence. Are we ready for this change? What will it entail on an existential level? What will we do, essentially, when we no longer have to work? Through the direct experiences of its protagonists in four emblematic countries - Kuwait, South Korea, Italy and the USA - After Work explores what the new work ethic could be, compatible with the future “free existence of work” .
Erik Gandini is one of the best known Scandinavian directors and one of the most interesting European documentary filmmakers. Born and raised in Italy, then a naturalized Swedish, he has produced and directed several internationally acclaimed documentary films. Among these Sacrificio(First Prize IDFA – International Documentary Film Festival of Amterdam), Surplus (First Prize IDFA and Silver Wolf in Amsterdam), Videocracy, on the media empire and the political rise of Silvio Berlusconi, and Teoria Svedese dell'Amore.
